Hi, I’m Andrew Michaels.

In my twelve years as a photographer, one thing I’ve come to appreciate most is the balance of technique and lack thereof.

Coming from a deep music background, I found music theory and rigid scales are necessary, but directly contradictory to the bigger picture - the ability to create and control feeling.

Headshots, while highly technical, also demand a keen awareness of when to approach from the technical lens, and when to completely negate technique for the sake of energy management.

Photographers of Big City Headshots are all about balancing efficiency with technique, to help our participants upgrade their forced smiles to something genuine, in just seconds.
